The Witchbrook devlog is a series of development articles explaining how Mossport is built and how its school, residents, homes, and relationships work. As of October 29, 2026, the official archive runs from Spellbound by Simulation on June 5, 2025, through the Release Date Announcement on October 27, 2026. Use the topic of each entry to choose where to begin; reading every post in reverse chronological order is not necessary.
For an overview of the student routine, start with Life at Witchbrook. For the making of the world, start with Spellbound by Simulation and Back to School. For expression and relationships, move to Express Yourself!, Building a Home, and Dating on Campus. Older schedule statements describe the plan at the time they were written; the current official launch date is January 28, 2027.
The archive in publication order
This chronology keeps similarly named updates distinct. The October 2025 development update and the October 2026 release announcement are separate posts with different purposes. The former introduced the world map alongside a schedule change; the latter supplies the current launch announcement.

The first development articles
Spellbound by Simulation — June 5, 2025
This entry introduces the simulation behind Mossport. Its subject is what runs around you: seasonal change, the movement of residents through their days, and the town's traffic. It belongs at the beginning of a chronological read because it explains the setting as an active world before later entries introduce particular routines within it.
Back to School — August 12, 2025
This is both a setting explanation and an environment-design article. Magic is presented as a practical skill that helps the town, while the college's architecture draws on Cambridge and other real influences. The post also follows the college art through greybox, draw-over, and final pixel-art stages.
It introduces Eli Ivers alongside the larger campus discussion. This makes it useful for readers who remember seeing the student village but want to understand the ideas behind it. The June 2026 student-life article is a better next stop for the progression loop, while this earlier post explains why the college looks and feels the way it does.
The campus discussion has several concrete threads to follow. Alchemy begins with practical remedies, while divination moves from daytime tarot to the observatory at night. The visual explanation then turns to sandstone buildings, the library's high windows, and older structures in different materials. These details show how the post combines worldbuilding and art direction. Its literary and film influences emphasize useful magic woven into ordinary life: knowledge of local plants and a witch's responsibility to the surrounding community.
The map, appearance, and winter entries
Development Update & World Map Reveal — October 15, 2025
This post records the decision to move the planned winter 2025 launch into the following year. It also reveals the scale of Mossport through the map, identifying the colored regions as playable areas. The discussion travels from forest and beach to high street, student village, college, and cottage surroundings.
Read it to understand what was announced at that point and why the map mattered to the project. Its release language is historical: the post's reference to the following year cannot replace the later launch announcement. Keeping that distinction prevents a map article from being misread as the current release schedule.
The named locations give the map reveal a useful structure. Shadhollow Forest and Parasol Sands establish contrasting natural settings. The high street brings together shops, markets, and festivals, while the student village sits beneath the college. Shadbrook Cottage provides a quieter retreat, with farmland and a riverside fishing spot nearby. The same update discusses the possibility of additional platforms and languages, placing those ambitions alongside the decision to spend more time bringing the world together.

Express Yourself! — November 26, 2025
Senior Artist Jade Evans explains the production challenges behind giving a tiny pixel-art character substantial visual variety. The discussion moves from silhouettes and hairstyles to animation, clothing layers, masks, and texture mapping. It also introduces Calico and the distinct fashion identities of its brands.
Choose this article when you want the reasoning behind the character creator, rather than only a preview of outfits. Its production figures describe the system when the post was written. The same article connects that production work to a town where pedestrians need to appear dressed for their surroundings and the season.
The technical section explains why an outfit needs more than a single attractive sprite. The character supports eight facing directions, and clothing must follow the animation in each situation. Animated masks and texture mapping let new garment designs fit those movements. The article also distinguishes player choice from pedestrian design: a character creator needs variety, while the wider town needs outfits that make sense for its setting and weather. Calico brings those designs together through recognizable fashion brands.
Winter comes to Mossport — December 15, 2025
The winter entry brings together snow, seasonal decoration, and music. Composer David Fenn discusses the winter suite, and the article introduces Pip, the witch-mechanic. It is the archive's focused seasonal entry rather than a general explanation of all four seasons.
This is the relevant place to begin if the winter atmosphere or soundtrack is what drew your attention. For the underlying idea of seasonal simulation, pair it with the opening development post. For Pip's wider role, a character-specific reference serves a different purpose from this introductory winter feature.
The student-life, home, and relationship entries
Life at Witchbrook — June 19, 2026
The game design team connects the major parts of a student witch's year. The article follows enrollment, work, classes, assignments, knowledge, exams, spells, wellbeing, and graduation. It explains how activities feed into one another instead of presenting them as separate lists of things to do.
Several useful distinctions appear within the student-life explanation. Business earnings pay for classes, whereas assignments award college merits. The knowledge collection records information and the requirements for learning more, and exam performance depends on relevant knowledge. A completed exam then entitles the student to spell tuition from Professor Carlyle. The production section discusses regular internal playtests, extra content informed by feedback, and translators working closely with the development team. These are separate strands within one substantial update.
Building a Home — August 12, 2026
This entry explains the cottage as both a personal space and a practical base. It covers furniture shopping, object placement, wall decoration, lighting, gardens, and outbuildings. It also describes additional cottages for online multiplayer, giving home customization a specific multiplayer context.
The update preceding the home section confirms Korean and Russian localization and reports translation, porting, testing, and polishing work. This is a useful example of why the opening paragraphs of a themed article matter: the title signals its central subject, but the same post can contain a separate development announcement before reaching that subject.
Harbour Home, in the Docklands, provides a rotating selection of furniture, with other decorative items coming from shops, markets, events, and rewards. The article then moves from indoor placement to seasonal herbs, wildflowers, beekeeping, and greenhouses. The sequence is useful: it explains the home as a decorated interior, a personalized outdoor space, and a practical source of ingredients. Its final section introduces the watermill, sunroom, and cliffside styles of the additional multiplayer cottages.

Dating on Campus — September 10, 2026
Art Director and Writer Steph explains the social and dating systems. The article confirms eleven romanceable characters, distinguishes friendship stories from romance, and describes the cards used to express different relationship intentions. Date planning and contextual conversation receive their own explanation rather than being reduced to a list of gift preferences.
Leif and Evadne are introduced before the relationship discussion begins. The post then separates spending time with a covenmate from choosing a romantic commitment: individual stories can progress through friendship. It explains the post office's cards for asking someone out, going steady, and breaking up, followed by dates built around two activities. Contextual conversation while walking around town helps reveal a companion's interests. The final section addresses going steady and the possibility of multiplayer players pursuing the same covenmate.
Finish with the current announcement
The October 27, 2026 Release Date Announcement is the latest entry in this archive snapshot. Its listed subjects include the launch date, trailer, PlayStation 5, Kiara, and an autumnal song preview. It therefore serves a different role from the deeper themed posts: it collects the current launch announcement and related reveals.
For a short catch-up, read the current announcement first, then choose one thematic entry matching your interests. For a fuller understanding, follow the publication table from top to bottom, keeping historical statements attached to their dates. The Witchbrook Oracle provides an email route for development blogs and news, while the archive lets you return directly to the named subject you want to understand.
