There is no verified public Witchbrook demo download or Early Access release as of October 29, 2026. The full digital game is scheduled for January 28, 2027. Footage of somebody playing the game can come from a restricted preview or an internal test, so it does not automatically provide a way for you to install the same build.

On Witchbrook's Steam page, the current public action is to wishlist the unreleased game. No public demo installation has been established there. If your aim is to try the controls before deciding whether to buy, that playable public option is still missing.

Which playable builds have actually existed

Build or access typeWhat has been describedWhat it means for you
Internal playtestsRepeated tests of progression, yearly pacing and late-game balanceDevelopment testing, without an announced public sign-up or download
TGS 2026 media previewJournalists played a restricted build with several systems already unlockedReal external hands-on impressions, without public access to that build
Creator accessCreator-interest registration appears in official guidanceRegistration can be considered by the team; it does not grant a playable copy
Public demo or Early AccessNo verified public release in the current informationNo supported installation procedure or access-code route to follow

These distinctions also explain why saying that nobody outside the studio has played Witchbrook would be wrong. Media hands-on sessions have happened. Their existence answers whether the game has been playable in a preview setting, while leaving public availability a separate question.

What the TGS preview can tell you

TGS reports describe short sessions starting after the opening of the game, with systems already available. The 4Gamer session was approximately 30 minutes; a separate Minimap report discussed in video coverage describes about 20 minutes. Those are different journalists' session lengths, not an announced time limit for a downloadable demo.

The preview let journalists investigate activities such as looking through library books, exploring Mossport and using magic. Starting partway through the game also meant encountering several unfamiliar systems at once. A journalist's initial confusion in that setting does not establish that the full game's introduction teaches everything in the same order.

If you are judging whether the game suits you, these reports can help you understand the interaction between study, research and practical work. They cannot establish how a public trial would begin, what progress it would allow or whether trial saves would carry into the full game.

Internal testing is a development milestone

The June development update described testing the pace of the first in-game year, which could take around 40–50 hours depending on playstyle. The August update discussed a final internal end-game balancing playtest and ongoing porting, QA and localisation.

Neither statement describes a demo you can play for 40–50 hours. The figures concern the amount of game the testers worked through, and the tests were used to adjust content and balance. They do not announce a public beta, a recruitment schedule or eligibility rules.

Creator registration is similarly distinct. The developer FAQ invites creators to leave their information for consideration and says the studio considers engaged communities rather than numbers alone. Its access guidance said the team was not ready to provide creator access at that point; that wording should not be used to deny later private previews or footage. Registration itself does not promise a key, a response date or access for everyone who submits a form.

What you can do while waiting for public access

Use the official Steam product to wishlist the game and receive its availability notification. Check the game's announcements if a playable trial is essential to your purchase; an actual demo announcement would need to identify how and where the public can access it.

A map preview, soundtrack video, trailer or screenshot does not provide that installation route. The confirmed January 28 release remains the full digital game's date. A future demo would be an additional announcement, with its own access details.
