Witchbrook's earlier developer Q&A coverage describes no combat at launch. The same answer mentions ideas for a possible future form of witchy combat, but it does not promise an update. Plan around the revealed school, exploration and community-service systems rather than expecting a fighting campaign.
That launch-plan answer is reported in matching Q&A read-throughs and a February 2026 Steam discussion. It is earlier development information, not a test of the unreleased final game. Current descriptions include Demon Hunting and dangerous areas, which need to be understood alongside that answer.
What magic actually does in the revealed game
Witchbrook gives spells practical uses throughout the day. The connection between learning an ability and using it outside class is central to progression.
| Revealed use | How it changes an activity |
|---|---|
| Telekinesis | Move objects and arrange furniture with your wand |
| Rain magic | Water herbs in the garden rather than carrying a hose around the beds |
| Broom summoning and flight | Travel around Mossport, rise over rooftops and carry out deliveries |
| Guidance magic | Help locate rare ingredients |
| A following light | Illuminate dark surroundings |
The TGS previews show spellcasting as an action of its own. You trace a pattern over a magic circle rather than only pressing an ability icon. The rain pattern resembles a drop of water; the broom-summoning pattern resembles a broom. Those motions connect the spell to its effect and can become familiar through repeated use.
These are uses of magic you can meaningfully compare with a combat-focused RPG. Time spent learning spells improves how you move, gather materials, furnish your home and help clients. A spell can matter to your daily routine without being an attack.

The ritual setting illustrates Arcane Arts rather than a demonstrated fight.
Why Demon Hunting and Arcane Arts need context
The current Steam curriculum explicitly names Alchemy, Potions, Astrology, Rituals, Demon Hunting and Tarot. Arcane Arts is also described as a field involving rituals and demons, reached after passing the first two semesters' exams.
A TGS reviewer saw exorcism-related spells but did not see their specific uses or associated events. That establishes a supernatural discipline in the game. It does not show an enemy health bar, a duel, an attack rotation or a boss fight.
The practical model used elsewhere in Witchbrook is consultation, diagnosis, research and action. A resident's problem can require a particular kind of knowledge or spell. The available exorcism material is not detailed enough to reconstruct how such a case plays out, so a battle walkthrough would be premature.
Dangerous exploration is gated by education
Thorn Woods is described as a dangerous area reserved for Journeyman-ranked witches. The college progression system also says that passing exams opens certain dangerous parts of Mossport.
That gives your education a purpose beyond earning better grades: knowledge and new spells can change where you are allowed to go and what you can do there. The TGS hands-on accounts similarly describe interactions that could not yet be attempted because the character lacked the necessary magic.
It is reasonable to expect exploration to expand with your skills. It is not reasonable to turn the word dangerous into an invented list of enemies, damage types or equipment requirements.
Where the older combat descriptions came from
An early 2017 interview discussed Zelda-style combat while the project was still using the working name Spellbound. That interview described an early design that could change. Later videos also revisit a 2019 design document containing wizard duels and other proposed systems.
Those accounts explain why searches can return confident-sounding combat claims. They concern earlier plans, while the later Q&A coverage gives the more specific launch position. Descriptions of duelling clubs, combat trees or dungeon fighting should not be carried forward as current features simply because they appear in an older summary.
Possible future combat is an idea rather than a roadmap
The reported Q&A wording leaves room for a novel kind of witchy combat in a post-release update. The qualifications matter: the designers have ideas, and those ideas could potentially become an update.
There is no announced date, implementation or promised combat expansion in that answer. If fighting is the activity you most want, the disclosed launch experience offers practical spellcraft and supernatural exploration, while a future fighting system remains a possibility rather than a purchasing assumption.
