Witchbrook's Steam Deck compatibility rating is currently Unknown. That means the game has not completed Valve's compatibility review; it does not mean Valve has rated it Unsupported. A confirmed handheld configuration or performance result is not available in the current information.
The Steam product lists January 28, 2027 as the planned release. If Steam Deck is your only intended way to play, the compatibility result is a separate purchasing condition to resolve before relying on that version.
Read Unknown accurately
Valve's categories describe different outcomes, rather than different levels of enthusiasm from the developer.
| Rating | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Verified | Passes all compatibility checks, with no configuration work needed to access all functionality |
| Playable | Functions on the device, but may require manual work from the player |
| Unsupported | Does not function because of hardware or software-stack incompatibility |
| Unknown | Has not completed the review, so experience information is unavailable |
Witchbrook belongs in the last row at present. Calling it Verified because it has controller support would skip the rest of the review. Calling it Unsupported would replace an unfinished review with a failure result that has not been given.
Steam purchase availability is also separate from this rating. Valve explains that its hardware storefront can show games whose suitability varies. Being able to find a game in a Steam library or store is therefore not proof that its handheld experience has passed the compatibility checks.
The developer has discussed Deck support
On April 16, 2025, developer Socks replied to a Steam Deck question that nothing had been confirmed and the team was actively looking into it. That is useful evidence that the topic was being considered, rather than ignored.
It is not a promise of a Verified badge by launch. The current Unknown label is the practical status to use until the product's compatibility details change or a reproducible test establishes more about the release build.
Controller support answers only part of the question
Steam lists full controller support and names Xbox and PlayStation controllers. That helps establish supported input for the PC game, but Valve also checks several other aspects of handheld use.
Its review considers whether the default controls reach all content, whether button prompts match the active input, how text entry works, whether the default configuration runs at a playable frame rate, and whether launchers can be operated. Deck-specific display checks cover supported resolution and readable interface text. Windows games running through Proton also depend on compatibility with that software layer.
Those checks matter for Witchbrook because the interface contains more than action buttons. You will read library material, inspect knowledge entries and consult written requests as part of your studies and business.

The PC knowledge collection shows the kind of information a handheld player would need to read. It is not a Steam Deck capture or a readability test.
A clear desktop screenshot can help identify the interface, while leaving its comfort on a smaller screen unresolved. Neither a trailer nor a console version supplies that missing Deck test.

The two-page library preview uses Japanese text and visible interaction controls. It is not a Steam Deck compatibility or readability test.
Windows requirements are not a SteamOS result
The minimum PC specification is Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, a quad-core CPU, 8 GB RAM, a DirectX 11-compatible video card with at least 4 GB VRAM, DirectX 11 and 2 GB free storage.
These requirements describe the native Windows release. They do not establish a working Proton version, a Deck graphics preset, a battery estimate or a stable frame cap. A generic compatibility-data folder listed by a PC wiki is likewise not a game-specific test report.
If you already own a suitable Windows PC as well as a Deck, you can evaluate the announced Windows requirements independently. If you need handheld play specifically, look for the updated Steam Deck compatibility breakdown and actual game-specific testing. The current evidence supports waiting for that result, rather than following an invented settings guide.
